Exam Prep - SECTION B - Understanding Institutions

Institutions

1. Number one in the creation of a film is the the film production. This is where the actors locations et are put together and then the director puts the film to how he wants the film to look like. Speacial FX etc are also constructed in this part as well and a lot of films these days rely on Special FX to attract viewers and it is a selling point most of the time. However films need the money to pay the costs of production and to get this they need to get in contact with investors in whom they need to convince to  support them which leads onto the second part of the chain.

2. The Film Distribution part is where the film is spread across cinemas and other film-supporting platforms (e.g. the internet - Netflix etc). If a film doesn't have a Distributer with it then it cannot get across to the audience therefore it'll just be and idependat film, making hardly no income. The ideas that are put in to create the film are very important in attracting distributers and if a film can acquire a well-known distributer with them then they can easily get the amount of money they need to create the film, and even hire the best actors/directors to create another selling point for which some of the audience actually watch the film for.

3. No everyone has the ability to go to the cinema, purely because they don't feel like paying money to see something on a big screen when they can just buy the DVD a couple of years later. But with more and more people having access to the internet, online streaming is getting more and more popular as well. So those who do not want to spend a lot of money by going to the cinema can watch movies on their phones, laptops etc and the popularity of streaming is massively growing. Film exhibition is where the film companies creating the film contact TV channels and streaming websites to market their film for in exchange for the ability of their customers to be able to watch it. Companies like Sky and ITV will pay millions to have the film on their channels in later years (and rival companies will pay even higher prices to claim the deal), so the film can make money even after a while after it was distributed.

4. Advertising can be spread out across most media platforms (Radio, Internet, Magazines, TV, Posters etc). The most popular is trailers on youtube
